Fitness is an Important Part of What You Do

Fitness and exercise has shown to be beneficial for our body and mind. One reason may be that the challenge of effortful movement demands our full attention. This focus on the present helps us clear our minds of thoughts about our past or worries about the future. As we exercise, our brains receive higher amounts of blood flow. This increase in blood flow helps to increase our alertness as we learn to better coordinate our muscles. Effortful exercise is a way of doing something good for yourself. Movement is a tangible way to take greater responsibility for your health. This explains why many enjoy a sense of achievement with every bout of exercise.

How Does Mindfulness Relate to Movement

The idea is to let go of distractions and unrelated thoughts. Focus your attention on your sensations, breath, and the movements of your body. Regular movement reshapes the mind in numerous ways that promote cognitive performance and emotional fitness. No matter if you walk, do yoga, run, bike or swim, it shifts us out of “sedentary life” coined by Hendry David Thoreau. Exercise gives us the ability to focus inward.

Movement doesn’t just keep us fit, it makes us happier. Research shows it enhances your mood, inspires creativity, and helps you to connect to your purpose. Participating in daily exercise can enhance meaning in your life. It truly cultivates well-being. Participating in a daily physical activity program, helps to improve alertness, attention, and motivation. Exercise increases productivity, become more resilient and helps us handle stress better. In a study, 65% of workers who exercised noted improvements in interactions with colleagues, time management and meeting deadlines. 80% of those people who participated took fewer sick days. Movement is as beneficial as prescription antidepressants as research shows. Regular exercise does not just transform your body, it transforms your inner state.

Research shows from physiology, neuroscience and psychiatry that exercising only a few times a week has many benefits. The act of exercising the body, go far beyond the body. It brings the neurochemistry of your brain into balance, reducing anxiety and sensitivity to stress. Sitting less and moving more can truly make us feel better!
